Love on a Leash®

The Durham/Orange chapter of Love on a Leash® was originally established in September of 2012 and included the entire North Carolina Triangle area. In October of 2022, the chapter had grown large enough to allow for two separate chapters – Raleigh and Durham-Orange – which could focus on supporting these two communities better. Our teams make regularly scheduled visits at local hospitals, schools, and nursing facilities and welcome invitations to visit at additional nursing facilities and fulfill other special visit requests. Volunteer teams visit both independently and in groups.

Meet Our Chapter Leader

Emilie Beglane lives in Durham with her husband and two Labrador Retrievers. She became a certified Love on a Leash® therapy team with her black Lab, Kylie, in 2012. Emilie is a retired pharmacy technician instructor who loves visiting skilled nursing and assisted living residents, and especially enjoys visiting patients through the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program. Emilie’s favorite part about volunteering with Love on a Leash® is seeing the smiles on people’s faces when our pets arrive!
